Youth have the power to transform the future. In our program, we use a popular education approaches and activities from AFSC’s Help Increase the Peace program to engage youth in a process of leadership development, personal reflection, community investigation, interpersonal skill building, and the development of community action projects. This process provides students with an important awareness of social justices issues directly affecting their daily lives and the opportunity to work with their peers to take action. Through this process, youth have taken part in developing the community gardens that are now learning hubs for continued healthy food and community initiatives throughout Los Angeles.
