About Us

The Roots for Peace: Building Healthy Communities is a program by American Friends Service Committee that develops youth and adult leadership that addresses the economic and racial injustices that lead to poor health in communities of color.  Our program engages participants in historical analysis, participatory research, food growing practices, cooking, health education, and community organizing.  Our goal is that youth and adults in communities of color gain the skills and mobilizing capacity to establish more just policies and practices in their schools and surrounding neighborhoods, thus improving community health.
